The Western Hockey League is set for a full return to play for the 2021-22 season. And with that comes regular responsibilities that may or may not have been forgotten during the abbreviated 24-game bubble season within Regina’s Brandt Centre this past spring.
With the 2021-22 regular season set to open play on Friday, October 1, the battle of Manitoba will be in full flight as the reigning 2021 Subway Cup (East Division) champion Brandon Wheat Kings host the Winnipeg ICE in the season-opener on Friday, before shifting to Winnipeg for the second game of the home-and-home in Manitoba’s capital on Saturday evening.
The full season schedule for the East Division has not been released, but some important dates were provided. The regular season will come to a conclusion on Sunday, April 3. With restrictions finally lifting for likely the final time, the WHL will feature a 68-game season with the hopes of full-capacity across the league.
That said, 50 Below Sports + Entertainment – the owner of the Winnipeg ICE – is looking to put together a list of families within the Winnipeg area that would be willing to serve as billets for the season.
The team has a link set up for potential billets to fill in information. It can be found by clicking here: https://winnipegice.ca/billet-registration.
Within the questionnaire are areas to fill out information such as family makeup, billeting experience, number of players willing to billet, pets and household location. Filling out the form will give the ICE the opportunity to reach out and potentially line up a match for the 2021-22 season of play.
