Wheat Kings Deal Rylan Thiessen to Swift Current

The Brandon Wheat Kings have moved overage blueliner Rylan Thiessen to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for a conditional ninth round selection in this year’s Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

“Rylan has been a consummate pro for our organization,” Wheaties’ general manager Doug Gasper said in a statement. “This trade allows him a chance go and be a big part of a new team.”

Thiessen, a 20-year-old product of the Wheat City, began his WHL career with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2019 before moving to his hometown midway through the 2019-20 season. In 31 games with Brandon, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound defender had one goal, 10 points and eight penalty minutes, including a seven-point-in-17-game experience in the Regina Hub last season.

“The Wheat Kings would like to thank Brandonite Rylan Thiessen and wish him good luck in Swift Current,” the team wrote in a social media post. “The Thiessens have been a part of the Wheat King family for years as fans, billets and then as a player.”

The 2021-22 WHL regular season is set to begin on Friday, October 1 by hosting provincial rival Winnipeg ICE at home.
