Hockey Manitoba has released its rosters for the male Team Manitoba U-16 squad, as well as its female Team Manitoba U-18 program following its annual Program of Excellence summer development camp in August.
Cutting the number of players on each roster down to 20 from 46 was a task that involved three days of focused attention at the development camp by respective head coaches Neil Chow and Jeff Sveinson. Now boasting rosters consisting of 11/12 forwards, six/seven defencemen and two goaltenders, both squads are set for action in late-October.
The U-18 female team has already completed a three-game exhibition series against the University of Manitoba Bisons women’s hockey team this past weekend. The female contingent will now move on to the National Women’s U-18 Championship which runs from October 31 to November 6 in Dawson Creek, BC.
The U-16 male team will test its skill in an exhibition contest against the U-18 Winnipeg Wild AAA squad on Sunday, September 26 at Bell MTS Iceplex. Following that, the players will move on to the WHL Cup in Red Deer, AB. which runs from October 20 to 24. Winnipeg makes up the largest contingent in being home to exactly half of the team’s 20 chosen players.
Leading the charge for the female program is head coach Neil Chow, and assistants Jessica Kaminsky and Alana Serhan. The team’s director of operations will be Dustin Stewart. On the male side of things, Jeff Sveinson will serve as head coach, while Jordan Sobkowicz and Jordan Wohlgemuth will be his assistants. Bernie Reichardt will be the team’s director of operations.
