Clear Lake’s Tristen Robins Named WHL Player of the Week

The Western Hockey League has announced Tristen Robins as its recipient of the WHL Player of the Week award for the week ending Sunday, October 17.

A huge week saw the 19-year-old collect eight points in just three games for the Saskatoon Blades, helping his team improve its record to 4-1-1 through its first six games. Finishing as one of the stars of each game he played in, the Clear Lake product pulled atop the WHL’s point scoring race with three goals and 10 assists.

The 2020 second round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks began his week with a three point affair against his hometown Brandon Wheat Kings, scoring the game’s first goal before adding two assists later in the contest. He then potted three assists in a shutout win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, before adding a goal and an assist on Saturday in Moose Jaw against the Warriors.

Officially signed to an entry-level contract by the Sharks, Robins enjoyed development camp in San Jose before being sent back to Saskatoon for what will be his final year of junior hockey. The former RINK Hockey Academy prep star broke out with the Blades in 2019-20, scoring 33 goals and 73 points in 62 games, before putting up 10 goals and 23 points in 16 games in last year’s shortened season.

The 5-foot-11, 186-pound forward was originally selected by the Regina Pats in the fourth round of the 2016 WHL Draft and was acquired by the Blades in January of 2018. Over 155 career WHL regular season games, Robins has amassed 135 points (55G-80A). He has recorded multi-point games in each of his five appearances with Saskatoon this season.
