Wheat Kings Deal for Souris’ Landon Roberts

The Brandon Wheat Kings have acquired 19-year-old forward Landon Roberts from the Tri-City Americans. Heading south is a seventh round selection in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

“Landon provides us with another veteran forward in our group,” general manager Doug Gasper said. “He plays hard and has a competitive nature that makes things difficult for the opposition.”

The Souris product will be counted on for some veteran stability within the bottom six of the Wheat Kings’ forward group. Having skated in 62 games with the Americans, Roberts has racked up 46 penalty minutes to go alongside three goals and two helpers.

Selected 129th overall in the 2017 WHL Prospects Draft, Roberts has now grown to 6-foot-3 and is tipping the scales at 211 pounds. A logjam of forwards in Tri-City prompted the move home.

“With an abundance of forwards, it was necessary to make a roster move,” Americans GM Bob Tory said. “We wish Landon all the best in Brandon.”

Honing his craft with the nearby U-18 AAA Southwest Cougars, Roberts had 21 goals and 34 points in 71 games alongside newly reunited past Cougars teammates Zach Turner and Owen Harris. After arriving in town on Wednesday following a long drive from Washington, the 19-year-old forward will get his first taste of Wheat Kings action as the team hosts the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night at the Keystone Centre.
