16-Year-Old Valentin Rodionov Passes Away in Russian ICU

Six days after collapsing on the ice and falling into a coma, Russian defenceman Valentin Rodionov has passed away in an intensive care unit in Moscow, as confirmed by the Russian Hockey Federation.

The 16-year-old Dynamo Moscow blueliner lost consciousness while playing against CSKA Moscow in the Moscow Open Championship last week. He never regained consciousness despite the best efforts of surgical staff at the Morozov Children’s City Clinical Hospital.

Rodionov had suited up 10 games in the MHL for Dynamo this season, to which his entire junior career has been spent. He skated with Russia back in October against the Czech Republic and Slovakia with the Under-17 National Team.
