Hockey Canada has announced the names the of the 24 individuals that will represent the country at the 2022 IIHF World Championship from May 13-29 in Helsinki and Tampere, Finland.
As selected by the club’s management team, Shane Doan and Rick Nash, the three goaltenders, seven defensemen and 14 forwards will bring a boat load of international experience to the fold. 11 players have served as members of the Canadian World Junior squad, five players have been a part of a Canadian World Championship team in past years, while three have represented Canada at the Olympics.
“We are thrilled to unveil the 24 players who will wear the Maple Leaf in Finland and take on the challenge of defending last year’s gold medal,” general manager Shane Doan said. “Our roster combines veteran experience and young talent, along with a number of players who have previously played for Canada on the international stage and some who will have their first opportunity to represent our country. We know the entire group is excited for this opportunity, and we look forward to gathering in Finland and competing for another gold medal.”
Canada will begin the 2022 World Championship with a matchup against Germany on May 13 at 12:15 PM. The Canadian preliminary round schedule also features games against Italy, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Denmark and France before the medal round begins. Canada will be looking for its 28th gold medal and 50th total top-three finish. All Canadian games can be viewed live on TSN.
