WHL to Open 2022-23 Season September 23

The Western Hockey League has announced its 2022-23 regular season schedule, set to begin on Friday, September 23 and run through Sunday, March 26.

Opening on September 23rd with eight games, the WHL will see each team play a full 68-game schedule that includes nearly 80 percent of all game action coming on weekends or holidays. With 585 of the 748 games being on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holiday Mondays, this leaves little to no excuse as to poor fan attendance.

The WHL Playoffs will begin on Friday, March 31 to which all postseason clubs will once again battle for the Ed Chynoweth Cup.

The Kamloops Blazers will host next year’s Memorial Cup at the Sandman Centre, following the conclusion of the WHL, OHL and QMJHL postseasons. It will run from Friday, May 26 through Monday, June 5.

The local Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg ICE will open their respective seasons on Saturday, September 24 in the first of 1o games between the provincial rivals on the season.
