Eight Manitobans Selected for Canadian National Women’s Camp

Hockey Canada has announced that 142 players across the country have been invited to participate in its National Women’s Program Selection Camp, running August 3-14 from the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park.

Players will participate in hopes of earning a spot on one of the National Women’s Team, the National Women’s Development Team or the National Women’s Under-18 Team. The 11-day camp will see the women split up into six teams for on and off-ice practices, skill sessions, intrasquad games and study time.

The teams will be chosen by Gina Kingsbury, Cherie Piper and Troy Ryan.

“This is a great opportunity to bring all three groups together in one place and start to envision what the next four years will look like,” Kingsbury said. “We are coming off a very successful season and we are looking to continue building on that. We have a full complement of experienced staff to lead our camps but having our Olympic athletes able to play leadership roles where they can mentor and share their experience is a positive step in our journey towards the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan.”

Selected to participate in the camp are eight players with Manitoban roots, including four goaltenders, three defensemen and one forward.
