Remember when you were growing up and you used the same curve as your favourite hockey player? Or you made sure you had the same brand of helmet as Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin because if it worked for them, it must work the same for you.
As sports fans, and more specifically hockey fans, we have always taken our cues from the stars that we idolize. When Dion Phaneuf broke into the NHL with the Calgary Flames, I remember using a green Easton Synergy ST because that was the only thing that stood between my one-timer and his.
At the beginning of this global pandemic we did the exact same thing.
I was watching the Jets vs. Oilers game on that Wednesday night when the NBA announced their season had been postponed. That is when the situation became real.
We knew it was coming. We knew there was a virus that threatened our health. We knew it was contagious. We knew measures would be taken.
What we did not know was that the entire sports world would come to a crashing halt.
In that sense we are still taking our cues from the sports world. To prove that, how are we going to know when the crisis has lessened and we are getting back to normal? Sports will be back.
It’s great to watch the news and keep up to date with what is happening in our world. It’s also very important to adhere to the rules and regulations our government lays out on a daily basis.
But when it comes to the big news, I’ll wait for hockey to return to know if things are back to normal.
Also… Can someone find me a Laine curve? My one-timer still needs some work and that’s the only thing I can think to improve it for when this is all over.
